In a televised address on January 1, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama spoke to the nation from a place of gratitude and determination. Marking nearly one year since his inauguration, the President reflected on the progress made in stabilizing Ghana’s economy and outlined a bold roadmap for 2026.
A Year of Economic Recovery

President Mahama highlighted that the “Reset Agenda” has already begun to yield significant results. After inheriting an economy in distress, his administration focused on prudent management and necessary reforms:
- Inflation Control: Inflation was successfully reduced from over 23% in late 2024 to a projected single-digit figure of just above 5% by the end of 2025.
- Currency Stability: The Ghana Cedi is on track to be ranked among the best-performing currencies in the world for 2025.
- IMF Exit: The President announced that Ghana is beginning the process of exiting the IMF program “with dignity,” transitioning from supplicants to partners.
Infrastructure and Sectoral Growth

The President detailed the tangible improvements in infrastructure and key sectors:
- Roads: Rehabilitation of over 2,000 kilometers of roads nationwide has commenced.
- Electricity: Consistent power supply has been restored, and rural electrification is being expanded to over 1,000 additional communities.
- Employment: Strong growth in manufacturing, construction, and agriculture is creating new opportunities for the youth.
The 2026 Roadmap: Accelerate and Expand
Looking ahead, the President committed to several transformative initiatives for 2026:
- Universal Health Coverage: The operationalization of free primary healthcare and the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to support those with non-communicable diseases.
- Education: Continued digitalization of schools to ensure 21st-century learning tools are available in every classroom.
- Food Security: A push for commercial agriculture and mechanization to make Ghana food self-sufficient.
- Renewable Energy: A target of reaching a 30% share of renewable energy in the national energy mix.
A Call for National Unity

A central theme of the address was the rejection of divisive politics. President Mahama reminded citizens that there is “no NPP Ghana, no CPP Ghana, or NDC Ghana—there is only one Ghana”. He urged the youth to take ownership of the reset agenda and called on all Ghanaians to work together toward a shared prophecy of prosperity.
