In one of the most memorable episodes of Paternity Court, Ms. Ware brought her best friend of eight years, Mr. Wilson, to face Judge Lauren Lake.
The premise sounds like a movie script: Ms. Ware claims that after a night of drinking and “Netflix and chilling,” she seduced her gay best friend, leading to the conception of her three-year-old son, Ayontae.
Mr. Wilson, however, vehemently denied it. He admitted to the friendship—bonding over potlucks and hair school—but insisted he used protection (or rather, “put it on” himself) and that there was no way he was the father.

The Investigation: Running Out of Options
The courtroom tension skyrocketed when Judge Lake began digging into Ms. Ware’s history. It turns out, Mr. Wilson wasn’t the first, second, or even third man she had tested.
Ms. Ware admitted to being sexually active with three other men around the same time, none of whom used protection.
- Man #1: Tested and excluded.
- Man #2: A restaurant manager who got her number after a complaint about fresh food. Tested and excluded.
- Man #3: A neighbor she dated because he “looked just like” the baby. Tested and excluded.
This left Mr. Wilson as the “only option left” in Ms. Ware’s mind. She was convinced that because she had eliminated everyone else, the math had to work in her favor.

The Twist: “I Don’t Play the Paternity Game”
Mr. Wilson stood firm. He argued that the child looked nothing like him—citing differences in skin tone, ears, and facial structure. He believed Ms. Ware was simply desperate to pin the child on him because he had moved away to Tennessee, improved his life, and she wanted him back to support her.
The Verdict: When Judge Lake opened the envelope, the courtroom fell silent. “Mr. Wilson… You are NOT the father.”
The revelation left a massive question mark. If four men had been tested and excluded, who was the father?

The Ghost in the Room
In a heartbreaking final twist, Judge Lake pressed Ms. Ware on if there was anyone else. Ms. Ware finally admitted there was one other man.
The catch? He is deceased.
Judge Lake assured her that they could still perform DNA testing using familial DNA to give her son the answers he deserves. The episode ended with the friendship fractured but the truth finally out in the open.
